Thank you to John Shostrom for making sure at least 10 men showed up for todays race!
Apart from the champions, we must also give a special mention to Fatima and Saad who ran their first race at the NYRR defending our team.
A HUGE thank-you to Andrei Lioshyn who took the train all the way from Trenton, NJ to join us this morning.
We also welcome back Inkul (Brown) Yoo to BRRC. His history goes back many years when he ran with us consistently, but he has spent the last couple of years with the Korean Road Runners. We hope he stays with us this time! Brown, along with running legend John Shostrom, club President Stephen Bonal, and local artist Charlie Hanley carried our mens 50+ team to a stellar fourth place finish, besting nearly every large team in New York City.
See our complete team results below, just underneath a picture of me taken at today's race (I'm really not that narcissistic, but this happens to be the only photo of BRRC currently available over at the official race write-up).

On Sunday, there will be a training run at the usual place and time.
The men's race will start at 8 a.m., and the women's race will follow at 9 a.m. BRRC needs 10 men and five women to field an official team. The race is always the fastest and most exciting of the year, and it's the cheapest, too! It's only $7 if you sign up before the race.
Also, team pictures are taken at the race, and if we have a good turnout, we'll probably get our picture in New York Runner, the NYRR's magazine.
If you need a ride to the race, contact Steve Bonal at 917-238-9447 or John Shostrom at 718-469-0589.
If anyone is interested in a long run Saturday
morning, Elias and Brent are leaving at 8 AM from the
“usual” Saturday morning location - PPW and 15th St
(Circles). (8-8:30 mpm)
We'll be running down to Red Hook, looping back up to
Prospect Park (it's about a ten mile loop), then doing
some mileage in the shade of the park once it begins
to heat up.
We'd love to have company if anyone is interested and
doesn't want to trek into Manhattan for the organized
20 miler NYRR is doing in CP.
Another group will be running with this NYRRC long run, starting at 7:00 am in Central Park. This run has different speed groups (7-11 mpm I think)

Today July 29, 2006 NYRR/New York Mets Run to Home Plate (5), club scored: The results are on the races page
Great job Adam! Also, congrats to John Shostrom on his age group award. Overall, a good day for BRRC at Shea Stadium. Maybe the home of the 2006 world champion METS!!!
As a cyclist, I will say something if I see something.

Ok team,
Marathon training continues tomorrow, with 2 tentatively slow loops of the beautiful, Prospect Park.
Make proposals, plan your runs. Discuss the strategy on our training wikipage
The team will be full force at the New York Marathon, check our races section. Most are in, although some missed out. If you are new to the club, and run the Marathon, it might be a good idea to sign up for the yahoogroup too at our bulletin board in order to stay informed.
Please come to the training to be ready.
Especially our women should participate. We have a team now, don't let us down.
If the Mets win the world serious this year (hey
they're in first place dammit) wouldn't you love to
say, hey, I crossed the same home plate as Julio
Franco or Carlos Beltran? GO METS! F the Yankees.

Riccardo, a longtime BRRC member and perennial sub-3-hour marathoner, is a professor of physiology and pharmacology (insert EPO/steroid joke here) at Downstate Medical Center. He's a lifelong endurance athlete, focusing first on cycling and then on running. He knows training and the science behind the training.
I, on the other hand, haven't taken a biology course since freshman year of high school, which was an extremely long time ago. Unlike Riccardo, I've been lucky enough to avoid injuries, so I've run about 25 marathons over the last dozen years. For my part of the talk, I'll add a little of my trial-and-error experience.
We will answer as many questions as we can. There's a saying in running that every runner is “an experiment of one,” so Riccardo and I hope that those who come will share their knowledge as well as their questions.
Hope to see many of you on July 5.- John
